Pandemic Policy for Suspected Illness of a Client or Staff

If A Child Becomes Symptomatic While in Our Care:

  • Program Staff will immediately call for the Supervisor’s/Designate assistance
  • Supervisor/Designate will proceed to assigned isolation area.
  • Supervisor/Designate will wear the appropriate PPE, isolation gown, gloves, face covering (mask or face shield).
  • Supervisor/Designate will call the child’s contacts to come pick up child.
  • Child will be made comfortable in the isolation area outside the classroom.
  • Children sharing space with the symptomatic child will have outside time weather permitting or be guided to hallway while cleaning is taking place.
  • Classroom will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected by following our disinfecting policy.
  • Upon parent arrival, Supervisor/designate will take child to parent and ensure isolation area is disinfected properly following our disinfecting policy
  • Child must be symptom free for 24 hours and can return to program with a note from doctor expressing child is safe to return.
  • If child diagnosed with Covid-19 parent must communicate immediately to Latchkey Child Care and Learning Centre Supervisor, and incident is reported to the Medical Officer of Health according to the list of communicable diseases and a serious occurrence report will be issued.

If A Staff Member Becomes Symptomatic While at Work:

  • Staff member will immediately report to the Supervisor/Designate
  • Supervisor/Designate will send staff member home immediately and cover until a replacement arrives
  • If staff member was working in a classroom, that classroom will be cleaned and disinfected following policy
  • If staff member was a designated cleaner, a replacement cleaner will be called in
  • Staff must be symptom free for 24 hours and return to work with a note from doctor expressing staff is safe to return.
  • If diagnosed positive with Covid-19, the incident is reported immediately to Supervisor, and incident is reported to the Medical Officer of Health according to the list of communicable diseases and a serious occurrence report will be issued.
